About

Our Mission

To make disciples by REACHING people for Jesus, RELATING them to other believers and growing them into passionate REPRODUCING followers of Christ.

Our Beliefs

The Scriptures

We believe the complete Old and New Testament of the Bible to be verbally inspired of God without error in its original writings.  These are the final and supreme authority of God for our faith and life in the local church.

The Godhead

We believe the Godhead eternally exists in three persons, the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit; that these three are one God, having precisely the same nature, attributes and perfections.

The Person of Jesus Christ

We believe in His eternal existence as God; His incarnation by means of the virgin birth; His death on the cross as the substitute atonement for sin; His literal bodily resurrection from the dead; His present ministry in heaven; His personal return to earth.

The Fall of Man

We believe that man was created in holiness under the Law of his Maker but by voluntary transgression fell from that holy and happy state, in consequence of which all mankind are now sinners, not by constraint but choice, being by nature utterly void of that holiness required by the Law of God, positively inclined to eternal ruin without defence of excuse.

The Work of the Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Godhead, convicts men of sin, regenerates, baptises, indwells, seals and sets believers apart unto holy living; that He keeps and empowers believers day by day; that He is the teacher of the Word of God and guide for our daily life.

Salvation

We believe that salvation is by grace, a free gift from God apart from works.  It is through personal faith in Christ as Saviour and Lord.  All who receive Him are regenerated by the Holy Spirit and become children of God.  That it is impossible, once saved, to lose your salvation.

The Local Church

We believe that the local church is a congregation of immersed believers, associated by covenant faith and fellowship of the gospel; observing the ordinances of Christ; governed by His laws and exercising the rights and privileges invested in them by the Word of God.  We believe the true mission of the church is the faithful witnessing of Christ to all men as we have opportunity.  We hold that the local church has the absolute right of self-government, free from any interference, and that the one and only superintendent is Christ, through the Holy Spirit.

Our History

Cornwall Street Baptist, like many churches in Wales has nearly closed at many times in its history.  Pastor Emeritus, Glen Thomas, led the church for 16 years through some dark and difficult times where the attendance at times struggled to keep the lights on at the church, but because of his faithfulness and the people’s prayers the Lord brought along side help at the right time.  Pastor Thomas, who was in his eighties, had serious health problems which hindered him continuing in the work.  Rev. J.A. Richards and his wife Pam came along to help the work and became the Oversight Pastor in June 2005.  A Sunday School was started in late 2005 with, Rev. Rick Owens and his wife, Jaime, and two boys coming for one year to help the ministry get off its feet.  On 23 June, 2010 J.A. Richards and Rick Owens were officially voted in as co-pastors at a church business meeting.  The evening Sunday School has grown into a busy work and the adults have at times tried to keep pace in numbers and in excitement for the Lord with this next generation coming into the church.  The building has had many repairs, including a new kitchen, new disabled toilets, double glazed windows and doors, carpet and chairs in the sanctuary, roof repairs, new crèche for the younger ones, and recently a new floor in the church hall.  The Lord receives all the Glory so that the “Lights are still on for Jesus in Grangetown at Cornwall Street Baptist”, what we, at the church that remember the difficult days, are calling a modern day miracle on Cornwall Street in Cardiff.
